First Friday Frolic series hosts its ACVB and Double Stereo night on September 3rd at Club de Ville.
The Austin Music Office, a division of The Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau, will be celebrating the launch of its new music microsite, powered by Double Stereo.
Local bands are encouraged to create a profile and add their music, bio, and merchandise to the site; tourists (and residents) will be able to check out these Austin artists, buy their music, and of course, make plans accordingly to attend a performance. The site will eventually serve as a comprehensive database for Austin acts, and in due time, should be a priceless resource for information on these musicians.

Just when I began to think the Arcade Fire had extinguished to a flicker–The Suburbs is dotted with hits but somewhat lacking when compared to Neon Bible in my humble opinion, they managed to create fireworks once more. Arcade Fire has certainly not lost their flair for the jaw drop. They have carved out their place in rock history by re-imagining the music video. The Wilderness Downtown “We Used to Wait” has taken modern technology and married it to the creative minds and music of Arcade Fire. (more…)
In Austin wherever you turn you can find awesome new musical talent. Home town favorites Vallejo have a solid track record of producing quality live performances and stellar music. Though these guys really know how to rock it’s difficult to label them with but one genre–they flirt with reggae in, “Temporary Thing” but manage to lace in the fuzzy, growling rock guitar that is signature Vallejo. They stay true to their world music roots with classic Latino rhythms but infuse every song with enough rock grit to put Vallejo in a category all their own. (more…)
As if you really needed another reason to come out and frolic with us this Friday, Double Stereo and the Austin Convention and Visitor’s Bureau are proud to celebrate the launch of Austin Music office’s music micro site powered by Double Stereo. If you are a sucker for big brass and reedy sax over African drums and classic funk grooves you’ll appreciate this bunch of home town boys. (more…)
Alpine Valley Music Center, Early Morning August 27th. Music legends Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan and Robert Cray join Stevie Ray Vaughn for what would be the final song of the night, an eleven minute ripping version of “Sweet Home Chicago.” Minutes after the set ended SRV hopped on a helicopter, ironically headed to Chicago, a destination that would never be reached. The helicopter carrying what was arguably the single greatest guitar player ever to come from the great state of Texas crash landed outside of East Troy, Wisconsin. The event was seemingly prophesized by the amount of pure, raw energy he exuded during his final performance. It was as if he knew Alpine was his last chance to make his Fender Strat sing the blues as only Stevie Ray knew how. (more…)
When curfew rolls around in Zilker Park and the music falls quiet and washes into the lull sounds of the crowds dissipating from the Austin City Limits Festival grounds it may be time to put the kiddos to bed, but it certainly doesn’t mean the party’s over. In fact, it means the real parties are just about to begin…the shows catered to the of age, night time crowd. C3 Presents released the slate of pre-shows and after-shows to surround this year’s Austin City Limits festivities. Check out a full list below, and be sure to check back with C3 to secure your tickets when they go on sale Saturday at 10 AM CST because there are some hot shows on the roster this year–Beats Antique, The Black Keys, and Deadmau5 round out our top picks. The electro- pop disco duo Alex Frankel and Nick Millhiser of Holy Ghost! have had one hell of a summer. After releasing their debut EP in mid May the two have wrapped up a tour with LCD Soundsystem, released a video with Adult Swim, had an iTunes single as the “download of the day,” and are rounding out the summer right on tour with Chromeo. Austinites will have their turn to see the duo in action as Chromeo hits up Waller Creek Ampitheatre tomorrow night. Nick Millhiser took a few minutes out of his downtime to chat with Double Stereo about the successes his summer has seen and what the future holds for Holy Ghost! (more…)
I love a girl that can rock out without sounding quintessentially “girl band” with Florence and the Machine there’s no frills, no bubble gum, just pure unadulterated talent and unbridled creativity. This chick knows how to jam hard and she knows how to do it with a signature style. In fact, she has even partnered with Lucky Magazine to allow her adoring fans to design her outfit for an upcoming performance in New York City this fall. You can also vote for her video which has been nominated for two Video Music Awards (you can vote here): best rock video, and video of the year. (more…)
If you are down to chill out and enjoy a little acoustic wonderment tonight The ND Austin has just what the doctor ordered. They’re offering up a double dose of guys with guitars tonight showcasing Jesse Marchant aka JBM and A.A. Bondy. Both gentlemen have a proven repertoire, Bondy having played a myriad of festivals and sold out shows and Marchant steadily making a name for himself with the release of his album, “Not Even In July is a mostly acoustic venture, textured thoughtfully by Marchant’s atmospheric arrangements, lyrical purity and unaffected baritone –that is as grand in its haunting restraint as it is in its emotional vitality.” (more…)
