New Automatic was born in 2000 when two friends took it upon themselves to fight back against the plague of country music in their hometown of La Grange, Texas. Chris Turner (vocals/ guitar) and Erik Schaeffer (vocals/bass), who have been writing and performing together since 1995, recruited local drumming phenom, Mark Mikulin and within a month debuted their lead vocal tandem, pop/punk sound to a packed hall in La Grange. It was the beginning of something frighteningly beautiful. With exhausting live performances laced with their own brand of witty humor, the guys have been compared to the likes of New Found Glory, Sum 41, and MXPX. 2002 saw the guys debuting their sound to new crowds across the state as they opened for acts such as The Riddlin’ Kids (Columbia Records), Dynamite Boy (Fearless Records), 40 Winks (End Records), Cruiserweight, Rubberhed, and a slew of other premier punk bands. A steady booking schedule has also helped New Automatic develop an active street team with members representing every major Texas market as well as out of state regions. This Defining Moment, New Automatic’s second studio album in two years, features the band’s more mature sound across ten tracks developed in the past year of relentless gigging. With a summer tour being booked into Florida, New Automatic is looking for 2003 to be a strong year as they expand their fan base and promote their new release.
