/tags/Album Review: Devotion Implosion by Gliss

So I was up late one night and was chatting with a friend about the indie and garage rock scene happening here in Austin. He linked me to some cool YouTube videos of some bands he listened to. The only one that caught my ear was “Morning Light” from a band called Gliss. The song was so amazing that I had to get my hands on the latest Gliss album. Titled Devotion Implosion, the album is an indie psychedelic breath of fresh air.

/tags/Don't "Comparamore" Versaemerge

Fueled By Ramen artist and Port St Lucie natives, Versaemerge, are taking the music scene by storm. This female fronted, five piece rock band may draw comparisons to their label mates, but they truly are in a class of their own. Having a female lead singer is where the comparisons should stop. Their sound is theatrical, emotional, soulful and at times... epic. What is surprising is the band's stock is quickly rising with only an EP on Fueled By Ramen. I got a chance to sit down with the members of Versaemerge and chat with them about generational differences, being a female fronted band, and about being "comparamored".

/tags/The Steps Album Review

The Steps are one of the most polished indie rock bands to come out of Austin in a long time. I first caught wind of them when they won last year’s ACL Sound and the Jury Competition. The prize was a slot to play ACL Fest. Of all the bands at Antone’s that night, they were the best fit for ACL in terms of being ready for the big stage. I admit I wasn’t happy that they won. I was there to support 60 Tigres, a great rock band from Monterrey, Mexico. I felt ACL needed more Latin representation last year (still think that). Ever since that night, I haven’t seen The Steps or heard their music until it came across my desk recently. Since they are from Austin and did put on a great live show, I decided to give it an honest listen with an objective ear.
