Yes, “The Boss” will be the 2012 SXSW keynote! The South By Southwest Music and Media Conference and Festival has announced Bruce Springsteen as keynote speaker for the 2012 event. The keynote will take place on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Austin Convention Center, the hub of SXSW Music events.
Kids in a New Groove is a non-profit that provides private music instruction to kids in the foster care system by matching them with qualified music instructors. Their vision is to enrich and enhance the lives of foster children by nurturing their hearts and minds through music. While April is nationally recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Texas based non-profit Kids In A New Groove is partnering with legendary rock group The Moody Blues and Strait Music to collect new and gently used musical instruments for children in foster care.
The Austin Music Office, a division of the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau will be celebrating 10 years of Austin music + 20 years of being the “Live Music Capital of the World” by releasing the Austin Music Volume 10 Album. The 14-song compilation album features diverse genres that define Austin’s music scene. This year, music fans can also purchase limited edition vinyl as well as download stickers, along with a mini Austin music guide with maps and club listings. The 2011 compilation is the tenth in a series produced by the Austin Music Office to promote the city’s live music scene.
For those of you who haven’t heard of the SIMS Foundation, it’s a non-profit organization that provides access to and financial support for mental health and addiction recovery services for Austin-area musicians and their families. SIMS was founded in 1995 by the friends and family of Sims Ellison, the bass player in one of Austin’s bands, Pariah. Sims lost battle with depression which ended in suicide.
SIMS 15th Anniversary Benifit Bash is happening Saturday December 11 at the Austin Music Hall. No one may be more excited than me about the Pariah tribute. The bash will also include an all star line-up including Ian McLagan, Kat Edmondson, Will Sexton, Brownout! and more.
