The Loom is a six-piece indie rock band from Brooklyn that features male/female vocals, horns, guitars, banjo, ukulele, keys, and percussion.
After releasing their debut EP, "At Last Light", in 2008, The Loom toured the northeast US and Canada and played Pop Montreal and CMJ 2008 and 2009, including showcases for BrooklynVegan, nyctaper, and Breakthru Radio, as well as BAM's "Sounds Like Brooklyn" series, The Northside Festival, and many more. In their shows on the road and at home, they shared bills with The Antlers, Rural Alberta Advantage, Rock Plaza Central, Julie Doiron, Headlights, Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, These United States, and many others.
Music from âAt Last Lightâ has appeared on "Good Morning America" and MTV's "Subterranean" as well as in âThe Youngest Candidate" (along with music by Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson and others), a documentary about young Americans running for political office directed by Brooklyn filmmaker Jason Pollock (former assistant to Michael Moore) and produced by Lawrence Bender (âAn Inconvenient Truthâ) and David Lettermanâs production company World Wide Pants. The film was released in the fall of 2008 and the soundtrack will be released with album art by Shepard Fairey.
The New Yorker recently described The Loom as "the beloved Brooklyn sextet who have lately been guiding their chamber-folk sound to decidedly louder sonic territory," while the website nyctaper.com wrote recently of their live show that, ""To say that The Loomâs performance was a revelation would be to understate the significance of this unit. They combine musical talent, strong writing, and an abundant amount of band camaraderie into an intense amalgam."
In winter 2010, The Loom completed its debut full-length album, "Teeth," at Maverick Studios in New York, NY with producer/engineer Allen Farmelo. The album was transferred to analog tape at Martha Wainwright's Cowboy Technical Services Recording Rig and was mastered at Howie Weinberg's Masterdisk. Album art was created by Asthmatic Kitty artist DM Stith.
The band plans to tour to promote their new album and they are playing SXSW 2010.
