QUICK BIO

The Vara-Tones are a first generation instrumental surf band which originated in the early 60's when The Fireballs, The Ventures, and Duane Eddy were on the charts and on the radio. Leo Fender and Dick Dale were beginning to experiment with the outboard reverb unit and Showman amplifier. The Vara-tones gigged all over Southern California during the height of the surfing craze ('63 - '65) and released a single, 'Repeto' on the Kay label in 1964. The group disbanded in 1966. For most bands, that would have been the end of the story - but NOT for the venerable V-People !! In 1997 most of the original members got together for a reunion. This ultimately resulted in their first album entitled "Jetty Subject To High Surf" which was soon followed by their current release "Headin' Out".
